Public bug reported:

The Karmic (9.10) PPC kernel 2.6.31-8-powerpc fails to load firmware for
a b43 card. The firmware is present in /lib/firmware. The failure
happens with firmware from the restricted modules wizard, and firmware
that works for the Jaunty kernel and for kernel.org 2.6.29.

The dmesg is:

The complete dmesg for this bug may be found as for bug #421940

Please note (with respect to this bug and to 421940, a zd1211rw is able
to load firmware and works on the machine, but takes up a valuable USB
slot. I would prefer to use one of the PCCard devices.
