This is a very bad problem.  As far as I know, Empathy is the only way I
can use cam and voice with google talk in linux.  I usually just use the
gmail.com in a web browser to chat and select to be invisable, but I
open Empathy to voice or video chat.  As soon as I open Empathy I see
this message on gmail.com's chat:

"Oops! You are not invisible because you're logged into Google Talk from
another client, device, or location that doesn't support invisibility."

Google talk's API is completely open source.

Why is MSN's hidden/invisible supported but not google talk?

Thanks for all the hard work on Empathy.  I am astonish by the features
that do work. (cam/voice really great)
