I have very similar problems with keyboard/mouse on my Dell Vostro 1510 Xubuntu 9.04. - when I boot, my keyboard works fine in Grub and do not in Log-in screen, neither mouse nor keyboard does not respond any action.
It is very annoying, and make me be dependent on Windows a lot.
