Arnaud, You are right - it's my fault. The thing is I *have* configured 'standalone' mode at first, but, probably, during digging in the issue I have removed (purge?) the package, reinstalled it later and forgot to edit this config file again. Have terminated all ups-related processes, restarted nut - all works fine.
So, the only issue (for following users) is to prevent hal-started process. As far as the issue doesn't affect me any more, it may be closed. NUT Control Center? Great! Good luck!
