Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

gnome sound recorder appears to record in ogg format but on immediate
playback [without saving it to a file first] I hear mainly clicking
sounds and very very brief snippets [less than 10%] of what should have
been recorded and that was barely audible. Also during the record I
noticed the level to be lower on the meter than while recording with the
other 3 formats listed below. I also found first saving the ogg format
recording to a file and then playing it produced the same malformed
result and playing it in vlc sounded the same. Another oddity is that
once I used the ogg format and then any other recording format I tried
in the same record window also behaved the same with garbled play back,
however if I opened a new window and used any of the other three formats
[flac, wav, spx] they again worked fine.

recording in flac, wav and spx worked fine. This is on a T43p notebook
with ubuntu 9.04 installed.

I also download an ogg file online and asked gnome sound recorder to
play it and that played fine.
