Not a problem, it wasn't your fault. This bug got incorrectly marked as a dupe, which prevented anyone from paying attention to your actual issue.
If you could borrow the laptop, you should be able to reproduce the issue on a 9.04 live cd without actually installing. That said, I'm fairly certain that it's basically the same issue as the rest of the -intel video issues we had, which have been addressed in 9.10. Let me know if you can or can't try a live cd.
