This problem would occur with ASUS Quiet Track DVD RW drives purchased in China. (Sorry I can't provide the actual model number) I found this problem on two PC's, and have since switched to a Pioneer DVD RW with no more desktop mounting problems with Ubuntu Jaunty. Today I tested one of the ASUS problem drives on updated Karmic 9.10 and the media mount problem appears to be solved!
