I know for a fact that whenever I had been attempting to create an extended partition, I had already created at least one primary one before that. Also, if its only SOME BIOSes that require it, then it shouldn't enforce that requirement. What if you're is one of the ones that doesn't require that?
Sorry, but I can't. I'd long given up and done my partitioning on gparted live.
