I created a LiveUSB of Karmic Alpha 5 using usb-creator with persistent
storage, and rebooted into it. It gets into Xorg and shows a loading
screen with a brown background and a moving white line in the center.
Then, the screen flashes six times, the line stops moving, and the
computer freezes up. Ctrl-Alt-Fx no longer works, and the only way I can
get it to respond is with Alt-SysRq-REISUB.

I extracted the relevant logfiles by mounting the persistent storage
file, and will attach them. The end of /var/log/messages (attached)
shows "[drm] Resetting GPU" six times, which would explain the six
screen flashes. I also have six Xorg.x.log files, which I'll attach
next.

** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
