I'm running Karmic Koala Alpha 5 up-to-date as of 9.6.2009, and I can
perform 10 consecutive pm-suspend, lid shuts, or fn-f1 hotkey, as well
as 5 consecutive pm-hibernates.
Please upgrade to Karmic Koala and see if that resolves your suspend
issue.
