I have tried on Karmic and there all seems to be normal. Can you try whether it works with a Karmic live CD (Alpha 5 or daily snapshot)?
Can you also try to update to version 5.2.4 of the Gutenprint driver by installing the package from http://openprinting.org/show_driver.cgi?driver=gutenprint Click the "How to install" link for installation instructions. After that start system-config-printer, right-click the icon of your print queue, choose "Properties" and then click the "Change" button for "Make and Model". In the dialog appearing then keep the manufacturer and model selection and for the driver choose the entry containing "OpenPrinting".
