Public bug reported:
I tried to install Ubuntu Edgy on the Desktop of one friend.
He as an AMD 64bit, a Gigabyte k8 triton motherboard and nvidia 6600GT based
video card.
Trying to start the live cd didn't "work", It did'nt show the real
interface but a noise image that had nothing to do with what it should
be: i mean nobody could say we were starting an OS :D. Anywhay we could
hear the Ubuntu jingle at login.
I decided to install everything in the textual mode. Installation worked
very good and fast but at reboot the "Ubuntu loading splash screen" was
in black and white and after a few second we had the same problem of the
live cd.
I tried to overcome switching to the terminal with ctrl-alt-F1 and from
there updating installed components and installing nvidia-glx package
with apt. It worked fine. I reboot the pc but we had the same problem of
before....
I tried one more time from command line with "nvidia-xconfig", I rebooted and
It worked!
But the initial splash screen is still in black and white.
I suppose it is a very easy thing to fix and hope this may help(if it
was'nt already fixed)
