In kubuntu jaunty on my compaq cq60-215dx, first off the first program
(usb_modeswitch) I compiled and it's hit or miss, then if I get to stage
2 (without it usb_modeswitch locking up the terminal/making me unable to
reboot correctly) and I run the modprobe, then launch gnome-ppp, gnome-
ppp doesn't detect the modem at all. (Not to mention the fact this
entire method of doing things is entirely unstable). A person on a eeepc
forums said they were able to get it working without the need for
usb_modeswitch but of course wants you to call him on skype for a 1on1
to tell you how to do it, and won't even give a hint of what he did on
the forums because it's "beyond the scope" of the forums, whatever that
means. http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=73502

I tried contacting him on skype, and he wasn't around to reveal his
secrets.
