Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: usplash

Since updating Kubuntu Karmic AMD64 alpha today, network-manager no
longer starts automatically. Up until yesterday, it did, creating a
network connection before logging in. Since today, I've had to manually
start network-manager (`sudo network-manager`.)
