One discrepancy I notice is your grub menu.lst for your 2.6.31-10
kernels are missing the "initrd" line that your 2.6.31-9 kernels have:
initrd /initrd.img-2.6.31-9-generic
You mentioned you did experience from upgrade issues. What if you
uninstall and then reinstall the 2.6.31-10 kernel.
