Picked up some new updates today for the *-10 kernel, apparently from alpha 6. grub-update ran again during the updates and it looks like that discrepancy is now fixed, and I can boot into the *-10 kernel fine now. I no longer get the splash screen for *-10, and my broadcom drivers don't work anymore, but that's another issue altogether. ;)
