I thought it would be too but I have two laptops EXACT same models and
hardware. When I load the Karmic Alpha 6 LiveCD one laptop at once
detects Broadcom card, the other does not. If it was a software issue
that would not be the case. The same issue has been tested out using
previous releases, and my laptop does not detect it but the other one
does. I know my hardware works though since after such tests Broadcom
mas magically detected at some point but was later lost on reboot, so I
am thinking its had to do with posts at above link about HP laptop
motherboards not turning on power to card when booted.
