ls: /vmlinuz: No such file or directory

'sudo update-initramfs -u -k all' worked so I changed the udev.postinst
script (on my system) and then 'dpkg-reconfigure udev' worked.  I have
no clue, really but it appears that symlink is causing the problem.  My
bootsplash now works properly-- it didn't before.
