Its not the screensaver itself. The screensaver works like its supposed
to. Its the set the screen saver preferences getting tweaked by
selecting the cyclone option in combination. Cyclone works fine, but
when you go to select it initially it locks the screen forcing a reboot
on a fresh install. Trust me, I have done this a number of times for the
sake of R&D to see if it was me or if there was a work around.
Uninstall, upload new gnome-screensaver package, and no matter what the
situation was it locked my screen when I first select the the option.
The set the screen saver preference works fine, until you select
cyclone. Then the screen locks up.

It could be a driver issue, but then why do the others work and this one
tweak so hard? Its being rendered on the same card and the graphics for
cyclone look like vector images, so it can't be that taxing on my card.
Even if it calculated an entire particle swarm with a real world physics
engine it would fare better than this weird anomaly.

anomaly (plural anomalies)

   1. A deviation from a rule or from what is regarded as normal.

My card is an ATI Radeon 256. The Os supports this card and drivers are readily
available. I do heavy 3D graphics with Maya no problem.

If you uninstall and upload gnome-screensaver it still remembers the
preference. Same boat. Re-install entire Os and not select cyclone is my
only option and that's where I'm at right now for the umpteenth time.
The X-screen savers looks cool, but they want to stop the Gnome daemon,
but even that didn't work when I said go ahead. Even after I uninstalled
the gnome-daemon for screensaver.

Its no big deal if its just my machine. I'd just hate to see the new
release go out and a million people b!*ch that they selected cyclone and
their screens locked up. Just take the stupid option out. Its not that
cool looking anyway. This tweak has cost me days. Oh, well.
