Yes, I have been using the proprietary nvidia drivers up until recently.
I just haven't had a chance to load them on since I reinstalled. The
most recent installation was with a daily image created after Alpha 6
(Alpha 6 wouldn't work on my system at all).

The video driver doesn't seem to have an affect. I've tried Vesa too.
I've even used Seatools to scan my hard drive and the Ubuntu Memtest86
to check my memory to make sure it's not just my machine. I also tried
Live CD's after that, and I have the same problem with those. I figure
if a Live CD fails, it must be something in the kernel since the Live
CD's don't use proprietary drivers as far as I know.
