Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

I have a strange problem. I have just upgraded from Jaunty to Karmic
Alpha and my sound doesn't work anymore. My computer has multiple audio
cards (one on the mother board, an ALC888) and another one on the
graphics card (ATI 4850)

However, when I try to run alsamixer, neither card is picked up.
However, if I specify alsamixer -c0, which should the default behaviour,
I get the right card configuration. The sound works fine with
appropriate output selected on ALSA.

My pulseaudio however, can't see any sound card (i.e. the hardware
section on System->Preferences->Sound is empty and on pulse audio volume
control, only dummy output is sepecified. Configuration tab is again
empty) and hence I am not able to play any sound through that. I somehow
think the alsamixer and pulseaudio problems are interrelated. I have
also played around with the order of card in alsa-base.conf but to no
avail.

I am attaching my alsa-base config in a seperate bug and marking it as a
duplicated of this one.
