Using Ubuntu Desktop 9.04
Dell D630 laptop would not offer option to display 1680x1050 on a 20"
Samsung monitor.
Workaround:
1. Edit xorg.conf and modify Virtual to 2048x1050
2. Run "xrandr --newmode 1680x1050 119.00 1680 1728 1760 1840 1050 1053 1059
1080 +hsync -vsync"
3. Run "xrandr --addmode VGA 1680x1050"
4. Run "xrandr --output VGA --mode 1680x1050"
5. Reboot
6. Select 1680x1050 in display options
7. Run gedit ~/.xprofile
8. Enter commands from lines 2,3 and 4 above into the file and Save it.
9. Run "chmod a+x ~/.xprofile"
