Hi,

I have made more tests this morning and I have found a constant behavior
in my audio system:

1) using the original </etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf> as it was installed with
1.0.21 alsa driver, I obtained this:
--> sound from headphones OK
--> sound recording with integrated microphone OK
--> sound from laptop speakers KO (completely muted)

2) using the original </etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf> as it was installed with
1.0.21 alsa driver, plus the option
<options snd-hda-intel model=hp-m4 enable_msi=1>, I obtained this:
--> sound from headphones OK
--> sound recording with integrated microphone KO (device not active)
--> sound from laptop speakers OK

I hope this can help

** Description changed:

  I have installed Ubuntu 9.04 64bit on my laptop HP HDX 18 (details here:

http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/ch/fr/ho/WF06b/321957-321957-3806904-3806906-3806906-3884582-3938575.html)

- I have installed the last alsa driver 1.0.20 from a PPA repository just to
obtain the sound from the audio card. This because with the default alsa driver
1.0.18 of Jaunty repository the sound don't function. This way I can obtain the
right sound from the speakers and with the hear-phones.

  The only part of the sound system of the laptop that don't work so far is the
internal stereo microphone that should work with the internal webcam. I have
tried with all alsa mixer and pulseaudio options, but the microphone don't
work. I can't record nothing but some kind of regular noise.

  I attach to this bug report some system details and audio system details
  that I hope can be useful to find a solution.
