I have experienced similar issues (ATA exception at resume) and they were triggered by the hdparm calls at resume. For those with these errors, please try either editing /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/95hdparm-apm to not call resume_hdparm_apm, or temporarily rename /sbin/hdparm to /sbin/hdparm.orig. And also delete /etc/pm/sleep.d/99laptop-mode which really should not be there any longer (bug #384875).
