I left the GNOME bug open because it is a valid feature enhancement request for an improved recurrence rule dialogue. Has been confirmed already.
It is not really an upstream version of this bug report, more of an idea that came out of tracking down what the actual problem was. I was slightly surprised that you assigned this bug to it. Perhaps at this stage, for the sake of clarity I should mark this bug REJECTED and create a new bug that describes only the feature enhancement contained in the GNOME bug?
