There are hundreds of laptops and motherboards out there and every one
of them seems to need its own particular option added to the
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file to operate properly.

To use the database, find the make and model of your machine and then open the 
alsa-base.conf file as root so you can edit it

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

post #22 of that thread is a user with a  Dell Vostro. Adding the
following to the end of his alsa-base.conf file worked for him.

options snd-hda-intel model=dell

Also look for someone who might have the same card on a different
laptop.
