I just upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10 and the problem is still present. Open Firefox, wait until screensaver activates, try typing something in the Google search box at the upper right of the browser or try entering an address in the URL bar. What you type will immediately highlight and subsequent key presses will overwrite each other.
I was hoping this was going to work in Karmic.
