Something to add: After rebooting, now I get an empty desktop, without the upper and lower bar. The only way I found to launch an app. is to create a launcher for it (using secondary mouse button). Now I am running firefox but it runs without any "decoration" so I can't resize it and it is fixed to the upper left corner. Since I plan to use this netbook most of the time with this monitor, I think I will install plain vanilla Ubuntu, because it is pain to loose every desktop element when swcthing to desktop mode, btw, I don't know how to switch back from this situation.
