I added the following to xorg:
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "Configure Server"
Option "AllowEmptyInput" "false"
EndSection
This resulted in duplicated keystrokes and the frozen keyboard/mouse
problem still happened after a while.
In my case using an external mouse and the following grub command
options almost eradicate the problem (is only triggered after several
hours): "idle=halt io_delay=none pci=routeirq clocksource=hpet"
