This is even more interesting. Please attach /var/log/kern.log a few
seconds after this happens.

I tried:
> eject /media/cdrom0

In this situation, can you please do

 strace -f -vv -s 1024 -o /tmp/eject.trace eject /dev/cdrom

and attach /tmp/eject.trace here?

If everything works, I don't really need them (I can compare them with
logs on my system).
