Thank you for responding! I am a bit lost in any case. I assume that "the most recent version of this package" for Ubuntu refers to Firefox 3.5...? I would greatly appreciate it if you pointed me to the procedure that I must do in order to upgrade. I have already looked at the Firefox page and attempted an upgrade of 3.5.3. This has not worked.
I have also tried going to the terminal to do: sudo apt - get update This starts and gets hung up 62% and produces: "hit" and "Ign" for various updates. Then terminates thus: "...-computer:~$ sudo apt-get update [sudo] password for computer: Hit http://archive.canonical.com hardy Release.gpg Ign http://archive.canonical.com hardy/partner Translation-en_US Hit http://archive.canonical.com hardy Release Hit http://archive.canonical.com hardy/partner Packages Hit http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security Release.gpg Ign http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security/main Translation-en_US Ign http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security/restricted Translation-en_US Ign http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security/universe Translation-en_US Ign http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security/multiverse Translation-en_US Hit http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security Release Hit http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security/main Packages Hit http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security/restricted Packages Hit http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security/main Sources Hit http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security/restricted Sources Hit http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security/universe Packages Hit http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security/universe Sources Hit http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security/multiverse Packages Hit http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security/multiverse Sources Err http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy Release.gpg Connection failed [IP: 91.189.88.45 80] Ign http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Translation-en_US Ign http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/restricted Translation-en_US Ign http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/universe Translation-en_US Ign http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/multiverse Translation-en_US Hit http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates Release.gpg Ign http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/main Translation-en_US Ign http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/restricted Translation-en_US Ign http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/universe Translation-en_US Ign http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/multiverse Translation-en_US Hit http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates Release Hit http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/main Packages Hit http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/restricted Packages Hit http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/main Sources Hit http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/restricted Sources Hit http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/universe Packages Hit http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/universe Sources Hit http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/multiverse Packages Hit http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/multiverse Sources Reading package lists... W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems"... Additionally I have tried the update manager and achieved equal results. No new upgrades. This after a purge of both Ibex 8.10 and Jackalope 9.4 which were partitioned - Jackalope had stopped functioning. I installed Hardy Heron 8.4 from a live disk that I made a few days ago. When I did the installation of Hardy, I was prompted in the set up about my keyboard which is a standard European for Spain. I am noticing that upgrades in translation are not taking... Is this part of the problem? My screen resolution problem persists at 800x600 and not the original option that did work until there was an update in August? This however is minor and can be looked at later. I had hoped that by switching to Hardy that the screen resolution option of 1200x800 would be offered anew. The graphic card that I have is admittedly minimal and I assume from the prior millennium.... I am hugely grateful for any guidance on these problems. Please advise if this is not the correct place to be posting this and I will re-post in the appropriate forum. --- On Thu, 10/1/09, Micah Gersten <[email protected]> wrote: From: Micah Gersten <[email protected]> Subject: [Bug 439585] Re: 2ND attempt. To: [email protected] Date: Thursday, October 1, 2009, 1:35 AM Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, according to this report, you are not using the most recent version of this package for your Ubuntu release. Please upgrade to the most recent version and let us know if you are still having this issue. Thanks in advance. ** Changed in: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- 2ND attempt. Status in “firefox-3.0” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 This is very buggy. This time I was allowed to post. There seems to be a problem with the tools-clear private data which does not clear cache and has no reaction with history that no longer compiles. All bookmarks have vanished. Impossible to make new bookmarks from small pop up window option. While viewing a Chinese URL (56.com?) the browser just closed. I am no longer able to view any streamed video on youtube. RhythumBox still is acting up with some programed radio stations RE Universidad de Puerto Rico(http://www.radiouniversidad.pr/hifi.m3u), although it is working now. I am not sure about packages but this is what I have found in Synaptic Package Manager: firefox 3.0.5 nobinonly-0ubuntu0-8.10.1 ubunfox 0.6-0ubuntu1 I hope this is useful. If you need further help with information please contact the email which I will be checking. I had planned on removing Ubuntu 9.04 which now refuses to reboot as well as Ubuntu Ibex 8.10 which is now getting to be really unpredictable and disfunctional. I have made a optical disk of Hardy Herron and would like to install that but am not sure as to how to proceed. I tried to do a live session with it and it did work with one exception. I only gave me an option pf screen resolution of 800x600 instead of the original 1200x800 which at one timed worked with Ubuntu 8.10 but suddenly vanished after running an update. While still searching for packages I preformed a search for repository indexes with the following result??: two indexes are not fetched: cdrom: [Ubuntu 8.10_Intrepid Ibex_Release i386 (20081029)/dist/Intrepid/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz cdrom:Ûbuntu 8.10_Interpid Ibex_Release i386 (20081029)/dist/Intrepid/restricted/binary-i386/Packages.gz Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD ROMs. I don't understand what the above means so if you could enlighten me on this, I would be very pleased. Finally I will not mark this as a security vulnerability as I am not qualified to judge, however the instability of all these problems is very troubling. Thanks in advance for your attention to these matters.
