Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

When trying to connect, having the phone connected via USB cable in "PC
Suite" mode, the phone shuts itself down instead of connecting. This
happens early in the connection process. The only message displayed by
NM is "Disconnected". Using the phone as a 3G modem in this manner works
under Windows Vista.

Using Karmic as of today.
