As I was not able to solve the problem, I abandoned the version of the distro and KDE 4. I went to GNOME ubuntu v 8.04 LTS, then to xubuntu 8.04 LTS. This latter version "works as advertised" and "out of the box" so I have kept using it. I have wondered if my memory (378MB) was a factor. But buying more RAM for the DELL Dimension L667r with P lll is not as easy as it might sound. However, when I move to a later version, who knows?? The machine was set up as just a working spare, but I found that I liked xubuntu 8.04 so much that I use it a lot on the WWW. Regards, Alan Weeks/.
