It is true, and affecting also Macbooks Pro 5,3.
You can always build it from source from wget
ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/tiwai/snapshot/alsa-driver-
unstable-snapshot.tar.gz but that is not a good solution for most users.
Furthermore, since the elimination of the linux-restricted-modules
package I haven't been able to make it work again.
