Pulse Audio ins't included in Kubuntu, but if you by chance may have installed something like VLC, I think it may be pulled in. Though I am not saying this is the issue, but it is the same type of issue we had earlier in the cycle as a result of Pulse Audio. Can you do the following in a comand line and paste the output here please:
