Right, "F22" is the intended assignment. Unfortunately Linux does not
provide a standard key code for the "toggle touchpad setting" meaning,
so F22 is a generally agreed workaround to allow userspace programs to
implement the functionality.

It should have been assigned to f22 in Jaunty (Ubuntu 9.04) and earlier,
too. Can you please check if you get the same xev output in Jaunty, too?
(You can use the live system CD). The keymap seems to be correct on the
evdev level, but doesn't seem to get propagated to X properly.

If you get a non-null name in xev (i. e. "f22" instead of "NoSymbol") in
Jaunty, then this looks like a regression in the X.org driver. If you
got a NoSymbol one there as well, but the key still worked as intended,
then I'm out of my knowledge, and we have to debug this further.
