Well, after rebooting again, I have some additional info:

fsck says /dev/sda5 (system partition) is clean. That's the last message.
However, is says nothing about /dev/sda7, which is my home partition. So, the 
boot process stops between those checks from fsck. (Because the home partition 
is also checked at that point?)

I have the Ubuntu Boot ppa enabled (https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
boot/+archive/ppa). However, using a chroot I have checked that none of
the 7 packages from boot ppa are installed (some packages are installed,
but the version supplied by the standard repositories are newer).
