Same here. Setting Master level to 0% does not mute the sound. According to alsamixer, PCM is set to max : PCM [dB gain=12.00, 12.00] Master is set to min : Master [dB gain=-46.50, -46.50]
And sound still comes out of the soundcard at a pretty good level. Same with PCM at min and Master at max. However, the muting button does work. I'm using Xfce and the sound mixer applet does not allow muting anymore (need to open the mixer application) so I was used to lower level to 0% to mute it.
