I installed kernel 2.6.31 from the mainline ppa. This time, the system did check my home partition (although I had to fsck both my partitions because the time of the superblock was in the future). After fsck, I had to restart and now, the 2.6.31-11 kernel did boot correctly! I don't know what's the problem, but could it be related to mandatory fsck check on /home, which is not correctly supported in 2.6.31-11 and above?
