This looks like a duplicate of Bug #430694. Try to change to console with alt +
f1, then stop your window manager through "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop".
Afterwards remove the module with "sudo rmmod i915" and reload it with "sudo
modprobe i915 modeset=1".
After a gdm restart with "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart" everything should be
fast again.
