Public bug reported:

A few days ago I successfully used feisty i386 desktop CD (built on Feb
1) to install ubuntu onto my new core2duo machine and everything was
working very well at that time.

But after I update the linux kernel from 2.6.20-6-generic to
2.6.20-8-generic (as well as hundreds of other packages that I can't
remember, err, including x11.xorg, nvidia drive, and openoffice
components in particular) using the update manager tonight, the X window
system starts to freeze completely after the desktop is shown up.
Furthermore, if it doesn't freeze, firefox often fails to start (I don't
receive any error messages). What's even worse is that I can't use the
"Report problem" tool on the ubuntu desktop menu any more. It keeps
telling me "Network problem - Could not upload report data to Launchpad"
while my network is perfectly okay and no web proxy is needed.

My hardware has the following configuration:

   Core 2 Duo E6600
   ASUS P5B-E motherboard
   Nvidia GeForce 7600GT
   SATA 160G harddisk

Sorry for the very little info presented in this report since I'm
completely new to ubuntu (and even linux). Hope this helps. :)
