Assuming that you are using kvm as a hypervisor this is fixed in karmic:
ch...@kenny:~$ virsh domblkstat jaunty hda
Connecting to uri: qemu:///system
hda rd_req 4209
hda rd_bytes 117918720
hda wr_req 1766
hda wr_bytes 87241728
Please re-open if you are still experiencing this problem on karmic.
