Hi,
I have added the libata-pata line into the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and
redid the hibernation process. These are the steps:
1. Select System->Quit->Hibernate
2. Wait until machine powers off
3. Power on the machine
The behavior of the machine did not change. I was still getting these types of
line on my screen:

[ 150.203885] Buffer I/O error on device sda1, logical block 42961166
So, I changed the harddrive and did the same steps above and the screen
came back to normal but there was no password that was been prompted by
gdm. To be sure, I redid the same process once again and, now, I'm only
getting a black screen with the mouse in and nothing else.
