Check and make sure the mixers are all turned up again (in alsamixer), and make sure the pulseaudio settings are turned up too. Otherwise PULSE_INTERNAL=1 mythfrontend won't work still.
Hopefully you don't need a full reinstall, but it looks like you have a different problem than originally anticipated (but helped unmask this problem that we just fixed).
