wow. changing the theme from human to clearlooks really helped. In fact I can switch back to the human-theme and still am not able to reproduce the crash anymore. Anyways I had to update libglib2 in the meanwhile to satisfy some dependencies when installing the dbgsym-packages so the configuration changed as well. I still do have some ugly flickering while the saving-status-bar changes and saving takes quite some time. Changing from Icon view to list view avoids the assertion fails. Maybe this is just one of those "unlucky combination of versions" bug normal shortly before a new release. If the backtrace is still helpful i will be happy to produce and provide one.
