I've found the problem, post it in case someone will need:

The sound don't play because nautilus application sound volume in Sound 
Preference>Applications is zero, I don't know the reason why but it's a trick 
to bring it up again:
- Right click on the sound volume applet and choose Sound Preference, choose 
the Applications tab
- Bring the nautilus out in background with some sound file visible, mouse 
hover on that file
- Now you should see the Nautilus application entry in Application tab, use TAB 
key to focus on that entry, now you can use the arrows key to increase the 
volume again
