I'm really sorry, it seems updating everything in the whole system has solved this problem.
The reason why I didn't do that in the first place was that at first when I wanted to update the system I was shown a dialog that packages could not be upgraded and I was asked to do a partial update, after which I was utterly confused and thought there was a bug in the update software.
