Setting /etc/papersize to "a4" or running the following command on a terminal:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure libpaper1
and selecting "a4" paper size should fix your problem!
Did you use the desktop cd to install Ubuntu? Here the ubuntu installer
ubiquity automatically sets /etc/papersize according to the country you
select during installation, should result in "a4" for Austria. Looking
at your locale file you seem to have selected English/USA here.
