Public bug reported:
kde copy the whole media file for the samba share network when opening
media file with smplayer
OS: Kubuntu Karmic (updated to the lastest) i386
This issue actually happens since Jaunty.
I'm not sure it is smplayer's problem or Dolphin's problem or other KDE
component caused it.
1. I was using Dolphin to browse the sharing network in my house. I
accessed into a movie share folder in one of the computers in my house.
(That computer is using windows XP as its OS). I've already assigned
smplayer as my default video player. So, I click to open that avi format
video, then the kde notification popped up and shows that the my system
is copying the whole video file to (/var/tmp/) somewhere. What's more,
the smplayer will not play it and show up until the copying process
finished. But I just want to open and play them instead of copying the
media file to my laptop. (Not only happens to video files, opening audio
file have this issues too. This happens to an Arch Linux + KDE system
too.)
2. If I use Kmplayer or Dragon Player to open these files in the sharing
network, both media player will automatically play them instead of
making a copy in my laptop.
Thank you.
