I think this may have been a freak occurance. I have tried to reproduce
without success.
I was running stock karmic 64-bit beta kernel (2.6.31-11.36). There were
a number of files that had a size of zero - I didn't find them all, but
it appeared that anything that had been written to in the last five
minutes of use was wiped out. (eg. many of the allegedly "updated"
files). I didn't spend alot of time searching through to find out what
exactly was wrong - (I should have pulled the log files, but I was
frustrated and trying to get something done before a deadline). Sorry.
I am going to mark this bug "not valid" as I have not provided enough
info to really get a trace on what actually happened. It could have
also been the update system. Who knows?
